Ras Al Khor Road and Al Khail Road each gain a lane on the way past MBR City

Two of the roads that carry Mohammed Bin Rashid City's commute have one more lane. The RTA announced the work, part of its rapid traffic solutions programme, on 28 July 2026.
Ras Al Khor Road
A new lane on Ras Al Khor Road in the direction of Al Khail Road, from the Financial Centre Street intersection to the Al Khail southbound ramp, takes the road from three lanes to four. The RTA puts the capacity gain at 33 per cent.
The Meydan exit
The same package improves the exit from Financial Centre Street towards Meydan and the entrance onto Ras Al Khor Road towards Financial Centre Street. With the new lane, the RTA expects the trip on Ras Al Khor Road towards Al Khail Road to fall from 15 minutes to 12, a fifth less.
Al Khail Road
A new lane of about 1 km on Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi also takes the road from three lanes to four, again a third more capacity, with peak-hour journeys up to 20 per cent quicker.
What came before
The RTA puts the package's gain in road efficiency at 20 per cent. It follows earlier work in the same area: a new exit from Financial Centre Street to Ras Al Khor Road, a wider Exit 25 from Ras Al Khor Road to Al Khail Road towards Al Meydan Street, and upgrades at several points in Business Bay.
The Meydan exit is the part of this that touches the district directly: a smoother exit from Financial Centre Street towards Meydan is a quicker evening drive from Downtown and DIFC to the northern edge of MBR City. The two extra lanes help the through traffic that passes the district on the way to Al Khail and Abu Dhabi. Neither changes the junctions inside the district itself.
