The Blue Line is a quarter built, three years before it carries anyone

A metro line is measured in per cent for years before it is measured in minutes, and the per cent is the only thing a resident can actually check against a promise.

Where it stands

The Blue Line is 26 per cent complete in early September. It was 20 per cent in May, and the RTA is aiming at 30 per cent by the end of 2026.

The date at the end of it

9 September 2029. Dubai opens metro lines on the ninth of the ninth, and has done since the Red Line in 2009 — a habit that makes the target unusually easy to hold anyone to.

What it means from here

The Blue Line does not run through Mohammed bin Rashid City. Its value to this district is indirect: it takes load off the Red and Green lines at the interchanges, and it puts Dubai Creek Harbour, International City and Academic City on the network for people who currently drive across town to reach them.

The line that will matter here

That is the Gold Line, and it is a separate project with a separate date. Its planned interchange with the national rail network sits at Meydan — the first time this district would have a station that is not a road.

Six percentage points in four months is a civil-works rate, not a systems rate, and the two behave completely differently: tunnelling and viaduct construction progress steadily and predictably, while the last quarter of any metro project is signalling, testing and trial running, which is where schedules slip. So 26 per cent in 2026 tells you the alignment is being built roughly to plan; it says nothing yet about 2029. The number that would genuinely de-risk the date is the systems contract award and the start of dynamic testing, usually two years out. For anyone here making a property decision on the strength of a future station, the Gold Line at Meydan is the relevant line and it is at an earlier stage than this one — approval is not construction.
